2 10 – 13 AT SEA (so far)

We are now at sea, crossing the Atlantic Ocean.  Our transit will take 8, count them, 8 days.

You may not know it, but we really enjoy sea days.  The only problem we have with them is that they are exhausting.  In the morning, Duane gets up and goes to Windows on the Biblical World lecture, except on Sunday when he goes to services.  This is at 9am.  At 10am both of us to go Bridge classes.  We are really enjoying them.  The teacher is very good.  I think we will be able to play when we get home.

Some days we will play a few hands before lunch, if the lecturer is not to our liking.  (and we don’t have a brunch appointment with the Captain, like yesterday.

In the afternoons we usually have some kind of dance lesson.  Today we had Argentine Tango.  I really like that.  Tomorrow it is line dancing.  We have had meringue, cha cha, etc.

Then there might be a chorale rehearsal.  We are not exactly sure what we are rehearsing for, but it is fun anyway.

There is also an afternoon lecture, if you want it.

We have chosen to eat at the Lido Buffet rather than the formal seatings in the dining room.  Up in the Lido we can sit with different people each meal and choose what food we want.   We can see it first.  Then we can put together a meal fit for our diets. (not counting the deserts)

After eating we go to the show, at 8pm.  Sometimes the show is very good and sometimes not.  So we always sit in the balcony, the just in case section, as one of the performers called it. (just in case we want to leave early) Most of the shows are pretty good.  A few, excellent.  Yes, there were some we were glad we were in the just in case section.

Most evenings, I go to the casino for a while.  I have made friends with the other penny slot machine players.  We “big” gamblers (up to $20 in a whole evening) have fun egging each other on.  And the casino hostess buys me a drink every now and then.  Duane usually goes us to the room to read or play computer games or finish his daily Sudoku game.

During these 8 days we are losing 4 hours, since we travelling east.  That kind of messes up our sleeping.  But lately, they have eliminated the hour between 2 and 3 pm, so we don’t miss it during the night.  Still, our sleeping is weird.

Then, the next day we start again.  Instead of getting rested at sea, we are keeping up the pace.

Next stop is Walvis Bay, Namibia. Walvis means whale.  More about that after we see it.

Be well.

BANK those hours!!!
Whenever you lose an hour you are entitled to skip an hour's worth of something you'd rather not do. Whenever you gain one, you get extra time to take a nap or something. The important thing is that you take or skip the hour on YOUR time. Don't let anyone tell you when you lost or gained that hour.

i.e. Daylight savings time in Spring...the time change is NOT going to happen in the middle of the night on Saturday and rob me of an hour of sleep. It's going to happen on the following Monday when my class of rowdy 5th graders show up. I'm telling them they are an hour late and sending them back to class.

Arleen's an accountant...she can figure it out and keep track.

Hope that helps,
David Lutick

AND when you cross the date Line...well, THAT'S just a veritable GOLDMINE of time banking...see if you can get the captain to zig-zag across it a few times.
