3 24 VUNG TAU

I, Arleen, chose not to go to Cu Chi and see the tunnels used by the Vietnamese during, not only the war with us, but in many conflicts of the past millennia.

Instead, I joined with 3 other people and we went by van to the town of Vung Tau, about 45 minutes from the ship.

Here are some pictures of what we saw.

Vietnam is a very colorful and beautiful country.  We are now in what was once South Vietnam.

The new roads are beautifully landscaped.  You may be able to tell that the shrubs are shaped like boats.  This roadway is a toll road.  I tried to get a picture of the driver paying the 50,000 dong for entry onto the highway.  (about $2.50) Obviously, I didn’t get that shot.  Would have been great.:)

There are colors everywhere.  And lots of flowers.  Even the buildings can be colorful.

This is how they cut grass here.  It is similar to how it is done in China.  Labor is cheaper than equipment and it keeps the people working.

We stopped at a local market, where there were small stalls.  I bought a pair of sandals, made of rubber for $7.

And, yes, they really do wear the cone shaped hats.  This is not a place tourists go.  We did not see one other tourist the whole 6 hours we were in Vung Tau.

At the beach they were celebrating an international kite festival.
