3 26 Halong Bay, Vietnam

Now we are in what used to be North Vietnam.  It seems strange to be in what was enemy territory.

Halong Bay is known for its islands and caves.  Since the islands are made of limestone, caves are very common.  The one we visited was only discovered in 1993 and opened to the public 2 years later.

Duane, of course not Arleen, was up for the sunrise this morning.

It doesn’t matter where you are, sunrises and sunsets are always beautiful.

The bay is filled with these picturesque islands.  We took too many pictures to post.

The tourist junks picked us up right at the ship for our excursion to the cave and the bay.

The town has a new side and an old one.

Arleen got to drive the boat for a while.

When we arrived at the island with the cave, we were not the only boat there.

Not sure why their trash can looks like a penguin.  There were several.  Most looked like dolphins, but some were definitely penguins.

Unlike caves in the US, these in Vietnam, like the one we saw in Guillin, China are decoratively lighted and you can touch.
