His is a view of one of the locks. They are all pretty much the same.
You go thru 3 locks going up into a huge lake. This lake supplies all the water for the canal locks. The only moving parts of this system are the lock gates. All the water uses gravity. It is an amazing feat of engineering.
This is our third time thru the canal, so some of our pictures were taken from our cabin. You may notice how dirty the window is. That’s what happens when you are on a lower deck.
These are some of the gates. We are either raised or lowered 27 feet each time. We started out at the height of the top of these gates and were lowered down to this level. Then the outward gates opened and away we went into the Caribbean.
These pictures, below, are of the Centennial Bridge, built after Panama got the canal back celebrating the 100 year anniversary of Panama’s independence from Columbia.
Here, Duane is watching as the ship is untied from the mule cog railway section. We had to tie up because a passenger had to off-loaded for medical purposes. That was the 3rd medical evacuation we have had, so far.
